Afterlife was created by Jiaying as a sanctuary for inhumans, a place where they'd be protected and hidden from humanity.

The exact location of Afterlife is unknown, but Lincoln mentioned that Afterlife's official name is Chinese thus it's assumed to be somewhere in China. Only Gordon and Jiaying know Afterlife's exact location.

Any contact with the outside world is prohibited at Afterlife; if a person wants to send a message to someone, they'd have to ask Gordon permission first. Furthermore, the main way people arrive and exit Afterlife is with Gordon's teleportation.

No one lives at Afterlife permanently; some inhumans come to Afterlife when they need a safe place to stay, but many are there to receive training and to be evaluated in order to determine which one of them will be chosen to go through terrigenesis. Most of the inhumans at Afterlife haven't gone through terrigenesis yet as Jiaying only chooses someone every few years.

Inhumans are also trained how to use their powers at Afterlife and taught how to blend in and keep their powers hidden from humans.

History Edit

In "The Dirty Half Dozen," after Lincoln is taken prisoner by Hydra, Gordon puts Afterlife on lock-down and refuses to let anyone leave until they know it's safe.

In "Scars," S.H.I.E.L.D. learns Afterlife's location by tracking Gordon and Coulson organizes a meeting between Jiaying and Gonzales.

In "S.O.S. Part One," under orders from Jiaying, Gordon and another inhuman steal a S.H.I.E.L.D. quinjet and fire missiles at Afterlife. Coulson became aware of Jiaying's deception when he realizes that the quinjet only fired two missiles and they only hit one building which was empty at the time.

After the attack, Gordon evacuated Afterlife and left only the inhumans that'd help Jiaying in her war against S.H.I.E.L.D.

After the War with S.H.I.E.L.D. Edit

With Jiaying and Gordon both dead, Afterlife was abandoned and the inhumans were left scattered and leaderless.

When Dr. Andrew Garner went through terrigenesis, he became the inhuman Lash and began hunting and killing other inhumans. Andrew would find Lash's targets with a book taken from Jiaying's office at Afterlife that contained a list of inhuman names.

Due to Lash's killing spree, it's unknown how many inhumans from Afterlife are currently still alive.
