Antoine "Trip" Triplett was a S.H.I.E.L.D. operative who originally had John Garrett as his supervising officer. He was a "Level 6 S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent" specialist with medical training. He joined Coulson's team in "Providence".

In "T.A.H.I.T.I.", Triplett went with Garrett on the Bus when S.H.I.E.L.D sent the two agents to retrieve Ian Quinn from the Bus and into S.H.I.E.L.D custody. After Coulson and Garrett agreed to keep Quinn on the Bus until they could help Skye, who had been shot by Quinn.

While Garrett went with Coulson, Ward and Fitz to the Guest House, Triplett stayed behind, as his medical expertise would be needed to help Skye. He stayed with Simmons, for whom he showed an apparent attraction.

When the four agents came back from their mission and retrieved GH.325 for Skye, Triplett and Garrett brought Quinn into S.H.I.E.L.D, to be taken to the Fridge.

A couple days later, in "End Of The Beginning", Triplett and Garrett were in an Australian S.H.I.E.L.D safe house when they were attacked by Deathlok. Despite firing every weapon they had at the cyborg, Deathlok was not fazed and escape through the ceiling.

Triplett then joined Coulson's team yet again on the hunt for the Clairvoyant. When they split into three teams of two, Triplett partnered with Ward. After Agent Blake was critically injured by Deathlok, Triplett was ordered to escort Simmons to the Hub as an expert on Project Deathlok.

In "Turn, Turn, Turn", while Coulson, Ward, Fitz, Skye, May and Garrett are being fired upon by S.H.I.E.L.D after HYDRA sleeper agents within the agency were activated, Triplett was still with Simmons at the Hub. After realizing that Simmons was (poorly) lying about researching the GH.325, Triplett allowed her to use his Level 6 access to view files higher up than her Level 5 access. When they learned that HYDRA had infiltrated and attacked S.H.I.E.L.D from the inside, Triplett locked themselves inside the lab and gave Simmons his knife, explaining that if she tried to kill him, he would know that Simmons was a traitor.

When Agent Hand and her agents busted into the lab, Hand gave them a choice: swear undying loyalty to HYDRA, or be "eliminated". In response, Triplett grabbed one of her agents as a hostage and explained that, if he and Simmons were going down, then at least they'll take a HYDRA agent with them. Hand then reveals that she is still loyal to S.H.I.E.L.D., and that Simmons and Triplett passed her test of their loyalty.

Afterwards, Triplett is seen being held back by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents as he angrily shouts at an arrested Garrett, enraged by his former mentor's betrayal.

During a lie detector test, it is revealed that Triplett's grandfather was a Howling Commando, likely Gabe Jones given his ethnicity, though no name is explicitly given.

Officially joining Coulson's team, he went on the assignment of rescuing Audrey Nathan from Marcus Daniels, an escapee from the Fridge. Soon after he and the team discovered that Ward was HYDRA.

Having served as an active and often vital team member throughout the first half of Season Two, Trip was KIA in "What They Become" whilst trying to protect Skye from the Diviner and the mist which Raina triggered in the Lost City. He kicked the Diviner, breaking it into pieces. As Skye was fully enveloped in the cocoon from the Terrigen crystals, Trip realized that a piece of the Diviner had hit him and was slowly petrified, and later crumbled in the quaking caused by Skye's emergent powers.

  • Expert Marksman: Triplett is a very accurate marksman, managing to defend himself against an assault by Deathlok, using an I.C.E.R. to shoot directly at his head. He was assigned to take down Carl Creel as a sniper, though he was interrupted by Lance Hunter.
  • Expert Martial Artist: Triplett was able to battle Grant Ward for a period of time, only stopping on orders from John Garrett, and he was able to easily defeat some of Cybertek's security operatives to infiltrate the Cybertek Manufacturing Facility.
  • Expert Pilot: Triplett is skilled in piloting different aircraft, such as the S.H.I.E.L.D. Jump Jet, the Quinjet and even the Bus. He also assisted Melinda May in deceiving three attacking HYDRA Quinjets, following her instructions to the letter.
  • Physician: Triplett had been trained as a medical technician, and was stationed to assist Jemma Simmons in case Skye's condition became critical when she was fatally shot.

Ward: He died.

Trip: That's tight.

Trip: No need to think the worst till it shakes your hand and says hello.
Skye: Is that another one of your grandma's sayings?
Trip: Fortune cookies. Had some kung pao chicken the other night.

"Making Friends and Influencing People"

Hunter: May shot me.
Trip: Man. I wanted to be the one.

"What They Become"

Sam: Well, all this excitement fried his circuits. His cooling system kicked in. Now he's recharging his batteries.
Trip: I know what you're doing.

Season OneEdit

Season TwoEdit

Season Four Edit

  • Triplett displays a large amount of respect for, and knowledge of, the tech side of things, despite being in Ops.
  • Triplett appears to show affection for Simmons as, according to Garrett, "My man Trip's got eyes for that bio-tech gal of yours.". This may, however, have waned when she moved away from S.H.I.E.L.D. between the first two seasons.
  • Trip appears to have read "Moby Dick", putting him one up on Fitz.
Howling Commandos

The Howling Commandos

  • His grandfather was one of the Howling Commandos and his family is in possession of an assortment of gadgets of his from the time of WWII. Most people assume that its Gabe Jones as he is the only African-American Commando.
  • At his mother's house there was a framed picture from 1944 of the Howling Commandos. The picture included James Barnes/Bucky but Steve Rogers is missing.
  • Trip fell victim to what is sometimes called 'The Wheedon Curse' as Joss has a tendency to kill off, suddenly and without warning, fan favorite characters.
  • The #TripLives, started by Clark Gregg on the cast's farewell video for BJ, became a popular meme.
  • Triplett was originally planned to be killed off in the season 1 finale at the same time as John Garrett.
