Vibranium is a very rare element that was first discovered during the early 20th century. Vibranium powers the Mark VI Iron Man suit and is what Captain America's shield is made of. It is from the country Wakanda.
History
Steve Rogers was taken to a U.S. Army facility. He entered Howard Stark's workshop where Stark presented him with different types of shields. Rogers was intrigued by a silver circular shield lying on a shelf. Stark informed him that it's lighter than aluminum and stronger than steel. He also added that the shield was all they had of the mineral.[1]
Tony Stark had been affected with palladium poisoning due to continued use of his suit . He saught to find a replacement, but no known element could withstand the arc reactor.
S.H.I.E.L.D. became aware of his problem andNick Fury sent him an package that once belonged to his father. In the box, there was a film reel where Howard strongly suggested something there was something hidden in a model of Stark Expo. He discovered one building in the model that had the atomic structure of vibranium. He recreated the elemnt in his lab, and made a new suit that was designed for the vibranium replacement. [2]
