Richard Lumley is a former S.H.I.E.L.D agent who was one of the agents on the mission to find and save Skye after her parents' death. In the episode "Seeds", Agent Coulson and Agent May track down and question Lumley about his mission.
Protecting Skye Edit
In 1990, twenty-four years prior to "Seeds", Lumley and his partner, Agent Linda Avery, were in the Hunan provence of China when a senior agent called in a code:0-8-4. He said an entire village had been killed trying to protect it. When Lumley's team lost contact with the first S.H.I.E.L.D. team they looked for them and found the senior agent who called in the 0-8-4 dead under a bridge. He had, however, the 0-8-4 in his hands; the 0-8-4 was baby Skye, she was covered in blood, but she was alive. Lumley and his team helicoptered out with baby Skye, but after they landed each member of Lumley's team was killed one by one. Lumley and Avery wanted to keep Skye safe so they put her in foster care and ordered Social Services to move her around every few months to make her harder to find.
Agent Avery was killed shortly after leaving Skye at the foster home, Lumley was afraid he was next so he disappeared and dropped off the grid.
Current History Edit
Coulson found Lumley in Mexico City after a teenager taking a selfie accidentally caught Lumley walking out of a grocery store in the background. At first, Lumley fought Coulson and May and was prepared to kill himself rather than be taken alive, but relaxed after they identified themselves as S.H.I.E.L.D. Lumley then explained to them what he knew about Skye and then warned Couslon and May to stay away from Skye as where ever she goes death follows.
